The Monk<\/p>

I never thought I would see a Timr\u2019pe monk outside his monastic world. He walked into the studio with his traditional cloak, looking like a tall dark mountain. He pointed to my wall of faces and sat on the bench where I put all my subjects.<\/p>

Then, to my surprise, he took off his cloak, letting me see his iridescent skin. I was sure it was forbidden, \u201cthey don\u2019t speak and never show their skin\u201d I was told. I looked around, I knew we were alone but still…<\/p>

They make a vow of silence when they are young, in a ceremony, they are given these metal-looking jaw blockers and don\u2019t say another word for the rest of their lives. They dedicate them selfs to the service of charity and pray, never to enter in any conflict, not caring for the complex ways of other worlds, welcoming anyone in need of shelter.<\/p>

That\u2019s why Timr\u2019pe is a good destination for refugees, and people who are hiding. I went there years ago looking for my family but had no luck. I remember trying to look through the shadow of their hoods to find only these purple light from within.<\/p>

When I was finished, I showed him the picture, he took it, wrote something on the back, I didn\u2019t recognize the language, and he waited there until he saw me adding it to the wall. Then he gave me this look, \u201cI know\u201d I said, he couldn\u2019t pay me, they don\u2019t use money. I didn\u2019t need money, I knew that I had been granted a privilege few can find in their lives, I had seen the face of a Timr\u2019pe monk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

El Monje<\/p>

Nunca pens\u00e9 que ver\u00eda a un monje Timr\u2019pe fuera de su mundo mon\u00e1stico. Entr\u00f3 al estudio con su capa tradicional, luciendo como una monta\u00f1a alta y oscura. Se\u00f1al\u00f3 mi pared de rostros y se sent\u00f3 en el banco donde pon\u00eda a todos mis sujetos.<\/p>

Luego, para mi sorpresa, se quit\u00f3 la capa, dej\u00e1ndome ver su piel iridiscente. Estaba seguro de que estaba prohibido, “no hablan y nunca muestran la piel”, me dijeron. Mir\u00e9 a mi alrededor, sab\u00eda que est\u00e1bamos solos pero a\u00fan as\u00ed …<\/p>

Hacen un voto de silencio cuando son j\u00f3venes, en una ceremonia, se les dan estos bloqueadores de mand\u00edbula de aspecto met\u00e1lico y no dicen una palabra m\u00e1s por el resto de sus vidas. Se dedican al servicio de la caridad y rezan, para no entrar nunca en ning\u00fan conflicto, sin preocuparse por las complejidades de otros mundos, recibiendo a cualquiera en necesidad de cobijo.<\/p>

Por eso Timr\u2019pe es un buen destino para los refugiados y las personas que se esconden. Fui hace a\u00f1os buscando a mi familia pero no tuve suerte. Recuerdo que intent\u00e9 mirar a trav\u00e9s de la sombra de sus capuchas para encontrar solo esta luz p\u00farpura ilumin\u00e1ndolas por dentro.<\/p>

Cuando termin\u00e9, le mostr\u00e9 la foto, la tom\u00f3, escribi\u00f3 algo en la parte de atr\u00e1s, no reconoc\u00ed el idioma y esper\u00f3 ah\u00ed hasta que me vio coloc\u00e1ndola en la pared. Luego me dio esta mirada, “Lo s\u00e9”, dije, no pod\u00eda pagarme, no usan dinero. No necesitaba dinero, sab\u00eda que se me hab\u00eda concedido un privilegio que pocos pueden encontrar en sus vidas, hab\u00eda visto la cara de un monje Timr’pe.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
