I was surprised to find him at Gelo Station, it had been over half a century since I last saw him, he didn’t seem to have aged, though I wonder if he was ever young.<\/p>

My family and I were accompanying the professor on one of his research travels. We arrived at Garan at a difficult time, a small planet, a green dot in space that became brown in only a couple of months. Its always green prairies and cultivated fields had dried up due to the absence of rain, and with it all life, big or small also withered.<\/p>

The nervousness of the population turned into concern, and after two months of pristine skies without any sign of the coming of the relieving rain, it finally turned into fear.<\/p>

Here is when this strange being made his first appearance, none could tell when or how he had arrived on the planet, he just walked into a town one day at dawn. He called himself The Rainmaker, the eyes of those present shone, innocents, all doubt or mistrust extinguished by the sensation of hope that took hold of them when they heard that word: \u201crainmaker\u201d.<\/p>

When we arrived we found him already at work, standing in the middle of a clearing on top of a hill. The inhabitants of Garan gathered around him forming concentric circles, entire families gathered by this being, kneeling at his feet, crying and imploring for the fulfillment of the healing miracle of their lands.<\/p>

I remember watching him, getting fat, brazenly savoring, satiating his appetite with the fear that covered the inhabitants like a shadow. When his belly was full, he opened his eyes, and looked at his supplicants with a mixture of pity and disdain, opened his cloak and extended his arms like in a welcoming hug, then he inhaled slowly, puffing out his chest, and lay there motionless, gloating in the captivating anxiety and silence of those around him, no one dared to make a sound. When the tension was at its peak, he opened his mouth and a strange sonar-like sound filled the air and traveled through the fields, echoing across the entire planet.\u00a0<\/p>

Then he closed his eyes, arms, and cloak and return to his cocoon posture. \u201cMy job here is done, thank you for the meal, it was delicious.\u201d he said, and started walking straight on the direction where the sun was setting and the horizon was becoming filled with promising clouds. El Hacedor de Lluvia<\/p>

Me sorprendi\u00f3 encontrarlo en la estaci\u00f3n Gelo, hab\u00eda pasado m\u00e1s de medio siglo desde la \u00faltima vez que lo vi, no parec\u00eda haber envejecido, aunque me pregunto si alguna vez fue joven.<\/p>

Mi familia y yo acompa\u00f1\u00e1bamos al profesor en uno de sus viajes de investigaci\u00f3n. Llegamos a Garan en un momento dif\u00edcil, un peque\u00f1o planeta, un punto verde en el espacio que se torn\u00f3 marr\u00f3n en solo un par de meses. Sus siempre verdes praderas y campos de cultivo se hab\u00edan ido secando por la ausencia de lluvia, y con ella toda la vida, grande o peque\u00f1a tambi\u00e9n se marchitaba.<\/p>

El nerviosismo de la poblaci\u00f3n se transform\u00f3 en preocupaci\u00f3n, y luego de dos meses de cielos v\u00edrgenes sin se\u00f1ales de la llegada de la lluvia aliviadora, finalmente se torn\u00f3 en miedo.<\/p>

Aqu\u00ed es cuando este extra\u00f1o ser hizo su primera aparici\u00f3n, nadie pod\u00eda decir cu\u00e1ndo ni c\u00f3mo hab\u00eda llegado al planeta, simplemente entr\u00f3 en un pueblo un d\u00eda de madrugada. Se hac\u00eda llamar El Hacedor de Lluvia; los ojos de los presentes brillaron, inocentes, toda duda o desconfianza extinguida por la sensaci\u00f3n de esperanza que se apoder\u00f3 de ellos al escuchar esas palabra: \u201chacedor de lluvia\u201d.<\/p>

Cuando llegamos lo encontramos ya trabajando, parado en medio de un claro en lo alto de una colina. Los habitantes de Garan se reun\u00edan a su alrededor formando c\u00edrculos conc\u00e9ntricos, familias enteras reunidas por este ser, arrodill\u00e1ndose a sus pies, llorando e implorando por el cumplimiento del milagro sanador de sus tierras.<\/p>

Recuerdo verlo engordar, saborear descaradamente, saciar su apetito con el miedo que cubr\u00eda a los habitantes como una sombra. Cuando su est\u00f3mago estuvo lleno, abri\u00f3 los ojos y mir\u00f3 a sus suplicantes con una mezcla de l\u00e1stima y desd\u00e9n, se abri\u00f3 la capa y extendi\u00f3 los brazos como en un abrazo de bienvenida, luego inhal\u00f3 lentamente, inflando el pecho, y se qued\u00f3 all\u00ed inm\u00f3vil, regode\u00e1ndose en la ansiedad cautivadora y el silencio de quienes lo rodeaban, nadie se atrevi\u00f3 a hacer un sonido. Cuando la tensi\u00f3n lleg\u00f3 a su punto m\u00e1ximo, abri\u00f3 la boca y un extra\u00f1o sonido parecido a un sonar llen\u00f3 el aire y viaj\u00f3 a trav\u00e9s de los campos, haciendo eco en todo el planeta. Luego cerr\u00f3 los ojos, los brazos y la capa y volvi\u00f3 a su postura de capullo. \u201cMi trabajo aqu\u00ed ha terminado, gracias por la comida, estuvo deliciosa\u201d dijo, y comenz\u00f3 a caminar directamente hacia la direcci\u00f3n donde el sol se estaba poniendo y el horizonte se estaba llenando de nubes prometedoras.
